NECSD Hosts District-Wide Math Meets for Young Mathematicians
Each year, teams from the District's nine elementary schools compete in a series of activities that test their mathematical, communication, and teamwork skills. Through a series of four workshops during the year, elementary aged mathematicians are able to meet and collaborate with students from other schools throughout the district during a pivotal year as they explore transitioning from elementary to middle school - all whiling improving their mathematical abilities through enrichment activities, friendly competition, and teamwork.
Their final meet in the spring is an Escape Room style competition. Ä¢¹½´«Ã½Escape Room typically hosts 15 stations (rooms) manned by employees from throughout the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. Each station featured a math problem the teams had to work through and solve. Teams would have to explain the method they used to obtain their answer before earning a key to move on to the next “room." Ä¢¹½´«Ã½team to complete each station first and acquire all of the keys wins the Escape Room Challenge.
A special thanks to Math Meet coordinators, Mr. Jesse Goodglass and Ms. Zoe Matthews.
