GIVE YOUR CANDY WRAPPERS A SECOND LIFE
This year the 3-5th grade students at Meadow Hill Elementary participated in Trash or Treasure. Ä¢¹½´«Ã½teachers and students encouraged other students, staff, and community members to collect and bring in their wrappers. We filled 3 boxes and shipped them back to Rubicon to start the recycling process. During processing, candy wrappers start their Second Life as part of the circular economy. Ä¢¹½´«Ã½wrappers are sorted by material, cleaned, and ground into small pieces. Ä¢¹½´«Ã½plastic pieces then go down a long conveyor belt and into a machine that heats the shredded material, turning it into very small balls called plastic pellets. These pellets are used to make new plastic items! We had such a great turnout and we are looking forward to doing it for our next holiday! Check out their website and order a box, they also have great educational resources.
